REAL ID Update

Starting January 2019, the Montana Motor Vehicle Division will begin issuing REAL ID credentials. Residents are not required to get a Montana REAL ID compliant license or ID but a Montana REAL ID compliant license or ID or another acceptable form of identification will be required to fly domestically and access federal facilities by October 2020.

Alternative options, such as a passport or passport card, are acceptable forms of identification as well.

If you plan to get a REAL ID, you can now book an appointment online at MVD REAL ID Appointments. Pay close attention the required documentation that you’ll need to bring with you to your REAL ID appointment.

REAL ID Update — September 2018

Current, unexpired license or ID may still be used to fly domestically until October 2020. The REAL ID website has gone live with the latest information REAL ID in Montana. Check for Frequently Asked Questions, list of locations that will be offering REAL ID, costs, and at a later date, the ability to schedule an appointment to get a REAL ID.
